Running from the Wind

31 12 2011

This is a poem I wrote and then pondered editing for a while and then finally did so.  The first version is free verse, the second sonnet. Several words were changed, but I believe the same overall meaning is conveyed.

Version I

I’m running from the wind

But it’s catching up with me

On it rides

A part of my life I do not wish to see

Fate is NOT inevitable

To me it is questionable

I can push the facts down

Down, Down, Down

To a place they will never be found

By you or by me

I’ll show the world

That there is nothing left to see

I’m running from the wind

In a chase that will never end

Until I come to terms

With the emotional hurricane

Inside of me

Version II

I am running from the wind

But it’s catching up with me

It stalks me every bend

And carries truths I’m scared to see

I dig myself holes and tunnels deep

And buy precious time

Yet still it nips my feet

And never lets peace me mine

I push facts far, far down

To a lightless void abyss

And cross my fingers they won’t be found

What’s not there the world can’t miss

My secrets make me so alone

Sometimes I wish that they were known

Paint Me

31 12 2011

            Paint me in a wood

                 Running with the deer

                 Paint me on the beach

Conch up to my ear

Paint me with a book

Sitting on the yard swing

Paint me in the pool

Arms spread like wings

Paint me naive

Before I ever knew

Loved ones leave

Paint me smiling too

Face punctuated by dimples

Life’s original commas

Paint me soft pastel

Preserve my innocence

Then paint me bright and bold

Atop the world in every sense

Paint me pencil in hand

Sewing words together

Paint me with my waist length hair

Adorned by an eagle feather

Paint me as I am

But not what I’m becoming

Paint me in a time

When my visage was truly mine

Brain Dead Poetry: Mid-Term Exams

29 12 2011

These are several poems I wrote in the time remaining after I finished my exams.  I have just gotten around to compiling them.  I am a quick exam taker, so I generally had at least an hour in which to sit around, listen to my iPod, and attempt to recover.  I have not edited any of these in order to preserve their loopy quality.

Enjoy!

Stupid Clock

It ticks

Then it tocks

Hands do not stop

Yet change it does not

Why has that stupid clock

Made time stop

Minutes dripping by

Like the leak

Of a frozen faucet

None.

I want to leave

I need reprieve

From this monotony

This air is stale

Full of dead brain cells

I’m choking on them

Eyes are burning

Feet are numb

No flavor left in my gum

And of my exams

This is only the first one

Fun.

Losing Focus

Thoughts drifting

Attention shifting

Losing concentration

I’m bored really

Teach me something

I do not know

My essays are fine

Writing is my medium

Just let me

Go to sleep

Your voice

Fingernails on chalkboard

My mind

Fuzzy and numb

Give me the prompt

And let’s move on

Before my semblance

Of awakeness is gone

Leave Me Alone

It’s too much

For three days

Too much

To memorize

To do

To write

To bubble in

I’m so stressed

So much to do

Too little time

Cram it all in

Every last bit

My patience

Is on end

Just let me be

No more questions

I have no

Answers left

You’ve taken them all

Treat them well

They are the only ones

I had

STOP!

Just sit still

Stranger next to me

I’m trying to do well

Can you not see?

Perhaps you want to fail

Less I could not care

I will not fail because of you

That would not be fair

Giving Up

Almost there

Do I dare

Have hope to see the sun?

One more to go

The one I didn’t study for

I’m seeing fs galore

Oh well

Yesterday I cared

Today I’m bared

Of any academic aspirations

Dancing in the Rain

29 12 2011

Dancing in the rain

Twirling, twirling

Droplets splashing

 I dance in the rain

Dark, dark clouds

A patchwork ceiling

The sky is having itself

A great big cry

But as for me

I’m lit with glee

Dancing in the rain

One by one

My worries are flung away

My shoes so clogged

I kick them off

Oozing mud

Between toes painted red

Water drip-drops from trees

Weighing down leaves

Hair so wet

Water gushing down gutters

Splutter, splutter

Spin

Spin

Slip!!!

Down I fall

Into the mud

Beware the rushing flood

Clothes in ruins

Soul repaired

I lie down in the rain

ANDREA, YOUR BLOG, WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!?????

29 12 2011

Yes my friends, I did it.  Some of you no doubt believed I wouldn’t, but I did. If you are having half as much trouble recognizing this place as I am then you are spinning circles and about faint.  I spent an entire hour choosing this theme, which has easier navigation than my previous one and should allow me to do verses and concrete poetry(!!)

I still miss my old one, it had a nice feel to it, but it was a tad limiting.

I hope I haven’t irked anyone too much or completely ruined your day or knocked you off your feet, if I have then I am terribly sorry.  A little suprise never hurt anyone haha!

Cheers,

AZ aka Andrea aka AndreaNadine

Have a FANTASTIC New Year

Cowardly Killer

28 12 2011

I promise I won’t be self-serving much longer, but I have started a new blog, the link is http://andreanadinemuses.wordpress.com/

One of my close relatives has been diagnosed with blood cancer, here is my temporary catharsis.

Sneaky little cowardly killer

You raise your axe

But stick a knife in the gut instead

You make me so mad

I see only red

You sip at life

Like it’s  fine wine

Daintily taking your time

You’ll turn someone so robust

Into a dry empty husk

You grow and you grow

You spread and you spread

Metastasize

That’s the word

Such a cruel word should be thought

But never under any circumstances said

For now you remain an enigma

Someday we will find an answer

Until then I damn you to hell

Stupid bloody no good cancer

2011 Alphabet

26 12 2011

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!! I’ve been super busy with my plethora of relatives so I haven’t been very good about posting, responding to comments, or checking out the blogs of others.  I hope to get back to that soon……

This just sort of came to me and I tried to keep it international because a lot of my readers are not American, but the references to Congress, Casey Anthony, and presidential candidates are American.

I have started a new blog

It’s a little rough right now, but I am slowly polishing away.

http://andreanadinemuses.wordpress.com

I also wanted to let you guys know that at some point soon I will be changing the theme of my blog.  This one just is not versatile enough.  It automatically compresses my posts which prevents me from doing concrete poetry and having verses, among other things. Please let me know how you feel about this decision!!

A is  for Angry Birds

B is for bye bye Steve Jobs

C is for the trial of Casey Anthony

D is for dead as Suddam Hussein

E is for energy that should be clean

F is for the faith in a cancer cure

G is for Greece’s economic collapse

H is for the final Harry Potter

I is for iPhone rampage

J is for the jail Lindsay Lohan should be in

K is for the kick I want to give Congress

L is for less money

M is for Muammar Gaddafi

N is for economic improvement, nada

O is for Occupy Wall Street

P is for the Person of the Year, The Protestor

Q is for questions unanswered

R is for the riots in London

S is for all the stupid presidential candidates

T is for the final Twilight

U is for the unfair treatment of peaceful Muslims

V is for the valiant soldiers coming home

W is for why do some people still not believe in global warming

X is the mark placed over Herman Cain’s presidential campaign

Y is for yes BP, there is still oil in the Gulf of Mexico

Z is for the zen moment we all need ’cause this year’s been nuts!!!
