Give Me A Beach

29 11 2011

Give me a beach

Without a single umbrella

No volleyball nets

Or lifeguard towers

A beach with sea oats

And dunes

Of real sand, not bleached white

A wild beach

By humanity’s lust

For the fake

No less than this

Will I take

I want a beach

That is real

Not a postcard

With picturesque

Palm trees

It’s up to you

If you want yours

However, I will always feel

That beaches should be kept real

Last Night I Flew

17 11 2011

Last night I flew

My wings grazed

Valleys screened

By a misty, white haze

I soared up and over

Every mountain top

My sun-kissed wings

Scintillated greater than

Crowns of ancient kings

I glided over

Vast fields of clover

And traversed

Sapphire seas

For there is no limit

To my dreams

Worse Friend

17 11 2011

Painful words flow like ice

Through the clear night

They diffuse through the air

To her disbelieving ears

Catalysts for dry tears

He doesn’t know

For so good is her show

Her sad, brave facade

Like stone her heart hardens

In all but

The innermost chamber

He would make for a bad boyfriend

Because he makes an even worse friend

Midnight Walk

15 11 2011

The moon is high

And the stars glow

With light from

A million years ago

Looming trees

Make canopies

The silence

Rings in my ears

And in all my years

I have never felt so near

To the side of myself

I always fear

I’m scared if I talk

I will ruin the ambience

Of my midnight walk

As much as nature

Calls my name

To home I must go

The moon is high

And tomorrow night

The stars will glow

With light from

A million years ago

Dear Future Self

15 11 2011

I wrote this as a poem to my future self because sometimes we make mistakes that we look back on and hate ourselves for, but maybe those mistakes really were for the better.

Future self

Please don’t regret

Times I said

Not what I meant

You are of

My mistakes

It’s not a puzzle

That one piece makes

I am still charting

The course of our life

My map is blank

Save a thin short line

Representing time

Spent turning into you

And sailing toward

A more comforting

Shade of blue

I will struggle

And I will fall

But I will always

Rise above all

I don’t know where you are

And I barely know where you have been

But I am you

And you are me

Someday we will meet

And both see

That I did my best

For you

And for me

Life is like the swift deer

It stops in many fields

And pushes away the ever-present fear

Of not knowing what each chance taken might yield
