A Season of Contradictions

19 04 2012

Summer in the South is both friend and foe alike

The sun kisses our skin and turns us bronze

It boils the air

And clings to us

The trees and bushes grow tangled

Gnats eat all that is moving alive

Flowers paint the ditches rainbow

And the roses bloom their hearts out

Some of those gnats are really tiny bees. I used
to wonder why my coorander was always in a gnat
cloud. I looked closely at one through a feild scope
and found a perfect miniture honey bee. I just knew
there hade to be something polinateing the really
small flowers. So many surprises in spring.

Though for many, summer is our winter. People
are advised to visit in the fall. I blame the heat.

Perhaps I shoulden’t mention the thumb-sized black horse
flies. Nothing flies faster or bites harder. Cockroaches are
down-right cute in comparasion.

I know all about those things. They chase me in the pool at swim practice.

I hope my roses turn out as beautiful as this one!

Lovely lines for a season that is rapidly heating my days. 🙂

Love it! Love the juxtaposition of growth and destruction, beauty and irritation in Florida’s summer heat.

A poem that kind of BURSTS out! Like a rose opening in a couple of seconds captured using time lapse.
