Where Do the Words Go?

20 01 2012

Where do the words go

The ones that surface too late

To make a difference

Perhaps they float up

Like sad balloons

Longing for a child’s hand

Maybe they hang up above us

Suspended in our personal electron cloud

Where do the words go

The ones that are advice ignored

Are they recycled

For another well-meaning soul to give

Or do they sink

Like rocks no longer needed to hold the soil down

Where do the words go

The ones that tell of hidden pain

Are they inhaled back by the speaker

Because no one wants to help

Or do they turn into ghosts

That haunt those who could have fixed everything

Where do the words go

The ones that spark change

Do they explode like fireworks

Multiplying under a starry sky

Do they fly like swift birds

Singing songs of reformation

I think they evolve and transcend

To something mere language can’t communicate

Where do the words go

Or do they never leave

They sit and weep in the corner like so many spoil children. Waiting and bad mouthing us until we use them again and then, like so many spoilt children they rise up smiling, sweet and pleasant no sign of a bad mouth left.
great poem very novel question! xx

The Emu

Words are like thoughts , they go into the universe and are recycled , bad thoughts affect others causing karma to the originator , hurtful statements are words are gone into the universe and bring on negativity to our planet , all things have a cause and effect , so do words and thoughts

Vampire Weather

The words evaporate within
The heat of our deliberation
Rising to the heavens then
To fall again like scented rain
The words evolve into ideas
That carve their path on to the sea
The words soak in beneath my skin
And turn into a part of me

Lovely…your work is so passionate and beautiful!

Hey … they never leave… we are reminded of that every-time someone reads your excellent words. I shared this poem with my mother…. a painter and retired school teacher…. It brought a tear to her eye… thanks.

I had no idea my words had that profound of an effect on those who read them, I am touched.

Wonderful thoughts and arrangement of words! I fear many poignant words fall upon ears and eyes that are content and therefore do not hear or see. But true words like yours have been writen and spoken before and shine bright and eternal like the stars above. Blessed are those that see the stars and listen to them.

This is awesome, Andrea, very deep and written for some good pondering….

Where do the words go
The ones that are advice ignored
Are they recycled
For another well-meaning soul to give
Or do they sink
Like rocks no longer needed to hold the soil down (love this verse) πŸ™‚
